In 2023, due to minimal changes in major food safety regulations and no significant personnel turnover, the number of staff sent for external training was fewer compared to 2022, totaling 21 individuals for 230.5 hours.
Despite no changes in our food safety management systems, we continued to provide ongoing education in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) to our production and R&D teams, enhancing their food safety knowledge and fostering industry collaboration, totaling 6 individuals for 42 hours.

Verification for Food Safety
Self-verification
SQF, FSSC 22000, TQF, and ISO 22000 management systems cover all the production lines of refined vegetable oil, pressed vegetable oil, edible barley flakes, dried flakes of mackerel and bonito, and ready-to-eat cereal-based muesli, at the Taichung Harbor Plant, a 100% factory certification.

External Audits
The number of external audits in 2022 totaled 30 audits, including 3 audits from the official health agencies, 8 self- assessment certification system audits, and 19 client audits.

In responding to the audit findings, we follow-up with corrective
actions, implement improvements and take preventive measures to meet audit requirements.

Among the audits, one was from the Food and Drug Administration to perform "Verification of Food Safety Management System" in the auditing of relevant data in the export of edible vegetable oils to Mainland China. Additionally, the TQF commissioned by the FDA provided the volume of imported soybeans, genetically modified and non-genetically modified.

2023 Important External Audits: Irregularities and Improvements
  1. During the SQF certification audit, it was found that the metal detector used after processing bonito flakes was damaged but not removed. The main reason was that the operator was unfamiliar with the equipment management procedures and believed the production process couldn't be altered, so they left the damaged equipment on the production line. After discussion, the damaged metal detector was removed, and the relevant procedures were revised. In addition, operators received training on equipment management protocols, emphasizing the immediate reporting of any equipment damage to supervisors for prompt action.
  2. The storage of acid earth and diatomaceous earth used in the oil refinery were also used to store other easily breakable items which were not listed in the fragile items inventory chart.  The main reason was negligence on the part of the operators, who believed that only fragile items within the production line needed to be listed. We have requested a re-count of fragile items and added these additional items to the fragile items inventory list. Additionally, during the morning meeting, we conducted training on the 'Taichung Harbor Plant Hygiene Management Operation Standard', emphasizing the section on 'Management of Glass and Fragile Material Containers'.
